  • The article discusses genetic research at the Clinic for Special Children in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, a pediatric facility which serves the Amish and Mennonite communities sometimes known as the Plain people. Particular focus is given to the clinic's discoveries regarding the prevention of diseases linked to genetic mutations. Details on the high incidence of genetic disorders among the Plain people and on their collaboration with scientists are presented. Other topics include research S. Harvey Mudd, bipolar disorder, and genetic screening.
