  • The article discusses planned experiments on groundwater banking by scientist Helen Dahlke and colleagues at the University of California, Davis (U. C. Davis). Dahlke and colleagues hope to send storm water to flood almond orchards, where it can filter into the water table over a span of two years. They will also test the quality of the water and investigate any detrimental effects on the trees. Drought in California is also discussed.
