  • The article discusses budget cuts to Earth science programs at the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). According to the authors, these cuts were carried out largely by Republican legislators, including Senator and presidential candidate Ted Cruz, and were motivated by opposition to climate change research. Funding for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and for NASA space research projects is also discussed.
