    El PSUC (Partit socialista Unificat de Catalunya) fou la principal força política d'oposició a la dictadura franquista i un dels principals actors de la Transició. En aquest treball pretenem resseguir la trajèctoria del PSUC al Baix Empordà entre 1976 i 1982, amb alguns apunts sobre els anys de la clandestinitat. Partint d'una militància més aviat feble, el seu creixement fou vertiginós, fins a assolir el nombre màxim de militants el 1979. Posteriorment inicià una lenta davallada, accelerada arran de la crisi oberta amb el V congrés del partit que conduí a la seva divisió el 1982 amb la fundació del Partit dels Comunistes de Catalunya (PCC) . malgrat haver assolit resultats electorals superiors a la mitjana de la demarcació de Girona, la seva implantació entre la pagesia i als pobles petits fou molt escassa. La seva tasca fou, a escala local, però molt important, ja que assegurà la majories d'esquerres en diversos ajuntaments de la comarca

    The PSUC (socialist Unifies Party of Catalonia) was the main political force in opposition to the Franco's dictatorship and one of the main actors of the Transition, In this paper we intend to follow the path of the PSUC in the Baix Empordà between 1976 and 1982, with some notes on the years of clandestinity. Starting with a rather weak militancy, its growth was rapid, reaching the maximun number of militants on 1979. It began later a slow decline, accelerated as a result of the crisis opened in the 5th Congredd of the Party that led to its division in 1982 with the founding of the party of the Communists of Catalonia (PCC). Even having obtaibed election results above the average of the province of girona. Its implementation among the peasantry and in samll towns was very loe. Its work was, however, important to secunring majorities of left wing in several municipalities of the region
