The author sheds insights into his career in writing. He says that he wrote long, soulful poetry about loneliness, darkness, and voice, longing to be heard, as an adolescent. When he took up a job as a research assistant for a marketing research company, he learnt to write research reports. He discovered that he could be a writer, a researcher, a scholar, and a poet, when he was in Buddy Goodall's graduate ethnography class.
