Resumen de Moon could be a planet under new definition

Stephen Battersby

  • Many wonder when is the moon not a moon. It a new proposal for defining planethood is adopted, the moon could be considered a planet in its own right. The meaning of the word "planet" has been a sore point since 2006, when the International Astronomical Union adopted a definition of a planet as being more or less round, and massive enough to have accreted or flung away objects in its orbital neighborhood. Famously, this excludes Pluto, recently revealed to be a stunningly complex world.
