  • The article assesses the popularity of zombies in pop culture, focusing on the psychological reasons for fascination with zombies. Topics include the way monsters trigger a fight or flight response, triggering increased heart rate, blood pressure and stress hormones; the mental stimulation encouraged by liminal beings that fall between categories, creating a cognitive mismatch; and xenophobic tendencies to distinguish between insiders and potentially dangerous outsiders.
