  • The authors focus on the need for a repository for the permanent disposal of nuclear waste in the United States. It comments in 1982 the Nuclear Waste Policy Act established a framework which led to the selection of Yucca Mountain for a deep geologic repository that the Department of Energy would build and operate. It mentions President Barack Obama halted work on the Yucca Mountain repository in 2010. It states the creation of a deep geological repository is for the common good of the nation.
