    No presente artigo investigam-se as razões que levaram Descartes, no primeiro século da Modernidade, a insistir em assegurar um lugar para a metafísica, reabilitando-a no interior de sua teoria do conhecimento e conferindo-lhe, assim, estatuto de ciência. Para tanto, procuraremos estabelecer um vínculo entre o desenvolvimento da ciência no séc. XVII, a Metafísica e a existência humana à luz da filosofia Cartesiana.

    In this article we investigate the reasons Descartes in the first century of modernity, to insist on securing a place for metaphysics , rehabilitating it on the inside of his theory of knowledge and giving it thus science status. Therefore , we will seek to establish a link between the development of science in the century. XVII, metaphysics and the meaning of human existence in the light of Cartesian philosophy.
