Resumen de Medición de la emigración de México a Estados Unidos, 1950-2016

El objetivo del artículo es revisar, analizar y dar seguimiento a la metodología, las cifras de las fuentes principales de información y las preguntas básicas: lugar de nacimiento, residencia previa y año de ingreso de los inmigrantes mexicanos en Estados Unidos, para estimar el flujo de los que entraron a ese país. La estimación es por quinquenio, de 1950 a 2014 y por año, de 1991 a 2014; también se muestra la importancia de la elección del procedimiento y las fuentes de datos para calcular las proyecciones de población de México, pues éstas son el insumo básico para hacerlo. Se sostiene que las condiciones económicas y del mercado laboral estadounidense modulan los flujos migratorios de mexicanos a ese país, y la factibilidad de prever su comportamiento en ciertos escenarios.

The goal of this article is to review, analyze, and follow up on the methodology, the figures of the main sources of information, and the basic questions: place of birth, previous residence, and year of entry of Mexican immigrants into the United States, in order to calculate the flow of those who entered that country. It is a five-year, from 1950 to 2014, and annual, from 1991 to 2014, estimate; likewise, the importance of choosing the procedure and the data sources in order to calculate the population projections in Mexico is shown because these are the basic input to do so. It is argued that economic and American labor market conditions modulate the migration flows of Mexicans to that country, and the feasibility of predicting their behavior in certain scenarios.
