Resumen de La prima attività di Lorenzo Fasolo (e una proposta per Giacomino Vismara)

Stefano Manavella

  • The article discusses the early work of Lorenzo Fasolo, bringing together documentary information and paintings datable to the last decade of the fifteenth century, within the context of Lombard and Ligurian art of the time, and with reference to the artist's securely established later work. Fasolo absorbed the composite cultural climate of Pavia, marked by the art of Foppa and other painters engaged of Sforza projects, but also by elements of enduring local tradition that were redolent of the courtly genre. These experiences reflected in the "Adoration of the Magi" (formerly in Florence), were enriched by the language of the latest works by Bramante and Bergognone -the prevailing style at the Certosa- as can be seen in two panels with the "Virgin and Child with Angels", and the lunette with the "Madonna of Mercy" in Pavia. Similar cultural roots can also be found in the recently restores cycle of frescoes in the inner church of the former monastery of Santa Clara in Pavia, where the paintings in the vaults of the choir could be the first securely identificable work by the elusive Giacomino Vismara.
