    • In this article, the author reflects on government arts funding in the U.S. as of November 2012. Particular focus is given to the arts policies of President Barack Obama and the Republican party nominee for President of the United States Mitt Romney. A reprint of statements on the arts from President Richard Nixon and Senator George McGovern, which were printed in a 1972 issue of the periodical "Art in America," is also presented.
