In this article, the authors explore the question of why pubic hair has seldom been depicted in Western art. Particular focus is paid to art created in the 20th and 21st century, with the authors noting that French artist Marcel Duchamp's final major work, Étant donnés," features a hairless female nude. Also discussed are the hypperealist nude sculptures of American artist Paul McCarthy, which like Duchamp, depict the female nude without hair.
