In this article, the author reflects upon the art scene of Detroit, Michigan, as of December 2013. Particular focus is given to how the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) may be forced to sell its collection to pay off the city's municipal debts. Additional topics discussed include the city's flourishing pop-up movement, financing for the art in the city and the Detroit-based artist Tiff Massey.
