In this article, the author reflects upon various issues relating to contemporary Egyptian art. Particular focus is given to how the political climate of the country is impacting its art. Additional topics discussed include the work of the contemporary artist Laila Suleiman, protests in Tahrir Square, Cairo, Egypt, and the death of the African-American teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012.
