The article examines the history and current climate of Dallas, Texas. Particular focus is given to efforts to make the city an arts and cultural destination. Additional topics discussed include the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge, designed by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, Latino and African-American communities in the city, and a series of paintings created for the city by the German artist George Grosz.
