El artículo pretende presentar la figura de Sor Febronia Ansalone, una mística franciscana nacida en Caccamo en el 1656 y fallecida en Palermo en el 1718, en el convento de Sta. Clara. El proceso informativo sobre la virtud comenzó en el 1735 y concluyó allá en el 1973 con aprobación del entonces Pontífice, Pío VI. La materia sobre la que versael presente artículo se dispone del siguiente modo: tras la descripción del trazado biográfico de la venerable, con particular atención a su vida cenobítica, es presentada su vocación de escritora, estrechamente ligada a su experiencia mística, la cual desemboca en la redacción de seis gruesos volúmenes que llevan por título: Contemplazioni di Suor Febronia Ferdinanda Ansalone di Gesù Religiosa Professa nel Ven. Monisterio di S. Chiara della Città di Palermo, scritte dalla medesima per ubbidienza del suo direttore; Ripiene di profondissime Teologiche Dottrine ed Ammaestramenti di Spirito. Desde el punto de vista del contenido, esta obra cubre todo el arco de la vida de Jesús y concluye con Pentecostés, movidos por una serie de revelaciones que Febronia recibía regularmente después de ser comunicada. El atento examen de dichos escritos, de parte de sus confesor y de parte del entonces Santo Oficio, ha demostrado que en ellos no hay nada de contrario a la doctrina de la fe. El artículo concluye con algunos testimonios seleccionados de los manuscritos del proceso, que ofrecen un cuadro esencial de su espiritualidad. las fuentes que el autor ha utilizado son: La biografía de Febronia, publicada por su director espiritual: fray Cayetano de Palermo; los seis volúmenes de las Contemplazioni (Contemplaciones); los registros manuscritos de los testimonios del proceso de información, y finalmente la Positio.

This article presents the Franciscan mystic Sister Febronia Ansalone, who was born in Caccamo, in 1656 and died at St. Clare's monastery, in Palermo, in 1718. The ecclesiastical investigation concerning her virtues (a perequisite to beatification, and then possibly canonization) began in 1735 and concluded in 1793, with the approval granted by Pope Pius VI, declaring her "Venerable". First an account of her life is given, especially her monastic life. There follows treatment of her vocation as a writer, closely bound up with her mystical experiences, which led to the production of six hefty volumes, titled: Contemplazioni di Suor Febronia Ferdinanda Ansalone di Gesù Religiosa Professa nel Ven. Monisterio di S. Chiara della Città di Palermo, scritte dalla medesima per ubbidienza del suo direttore; Ripiene di profondissime Teologiche Dottrine ed Ammaestramenti di Spirito. This work covers the whole of Jesus's life on earth and then concludes with Pentecost. It has its origin in a series of private revelations that regularly followed after Febronia received Holy Communion. Attentive examination of these writings, both by the nun's confessor and by the Holy Office, concluded that there was nothing in them contrary to the teachings of the faith. The final part of the article presents some of the testimonies given in the course of the ecclesiastical investigation, chosen from the manuscript record of the process, which allow the reader to become acquainted with the essentials of Febronia's spirituality. The sources for this article are Febronia's biography, published by her spiritual director, fra' Gaetano da Palermo; the six volumes of the Contemplazioni; the manuscript record of the testimonies given in the course of the ecclesiastical enquiry, and the Positio that summarizes the life and virtues of the Servant of God for the purpose of that process.
