Multiculturalidade, recuperação e interpretação da informação: Discussões no contexto da web semântica e web pragmática

    With the Internet, studies of the representation and interpretation of information and knowledge have taken on new proportions considering the means for cultural exchange to occur in this environment. It is intended to understand how the creation and consumption of information could be improved by individuals immersed in different cultures and contexts. It is assumed that current technologies have lowered several barriers for access to information and interaction between individuals, but many problems remain to be solved to improve the representation and interpretation on the access of such informational content. In order to elucidate the issues, the concepts of information representation and retrieval are addressed, mainly under the view of Ingwersen and Järvelin (2005), the semantic and pragmatic theories of Morris (1985) and Peirce (1977), as well as the semiotic studies, are used to support the theoretical discussion about the representation and interpretation of information in the multicultural environment of the internet. The essential characteristics of the semantic web structure and the pragmatic web are elucidated, showing how they seek to solve some of these problems, at the same time reuse concepts and procedures already known in the Information Science area, such as metadata, ontologies and selective dissemination of information.

    It is concluded that, even in the face of numerous researches on the subject, it is necessary to consider which are the main points of convergence that will present tenuous solutions to the complexity of the phenomenon of multiculturality existing on the web.

    Com a internet, os estudos da representação e interpretação de informações e conhecimentos tomaram novas proporções considerando as formas de intercâmbio cultural que ocorre nesse ambiente.

    Pretende-se compreender como poderia ser aprimorada a criação e consumo de informações por indivíduos imersos em culturas e contextos diferentes. Parte-se do princípio de que as tecnologias atuais diminuíram diversas barreiras de acesso à informação e interação entre indivíduos, mas restam muitos problemas a serem solucionados para aprimorar a representação e a interpretação no acesso a esses conteúdos informacionais. Para elucidar as questões, são abordados os conceitos de representação e recuperação da informação, sob a visão de Ingwersen e Järvelin (2005), retoma-se as teorias semânticas e pragmáticas de Morris (1985) e Peirce (1977), assim como os estudos semióticos, para dar sustentação à discussão teórica sobre a representação e a interpretação de informações no ambiente multicultural da internet. São elucidadas as características essenciais da estrutura da web semântica e da web pragmática, mostrando como elas buscam solucionar alguns desses problemas, ao mesmo tempo reutilizam conceitos e procedimentos já conhecidos da área da Ciência da Informação, como os metadados, as ontologias e a disseminação seletiva de informação. Conclui-se que, mesmo diante de inúmeras pesquisas voltadas para a temática, é preciso considerar quais são os principais pontos de convergência que apresentarão soluções tênues para a complexidade do fenômeno da multiculturalidade existente na web.
