  • The article reports on annual opioid fatalities in the United States in the 21st century and methods to possibly reduce drug-related deaths. It suggests that cities and states need to consider establishing safe injection rooms (SIR) where drug users can go to consume illicit drugs under health worker supervision. It states SIR have been used in Australia, Canada and Europe for decades with statistics showing their effectiveness. It talks about prescription drugs as a gateway drug to heroin use.
