  • The article discusses the impact that the increase of the wildland-urban interface (WUI), from the 1960s through the 2010s, has on the damage to homes and deaths caused by wildfires in the U.S. and California. It references an article coauthored by forest ecologist Volker Radeloff in the "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA" journal. The increased cost of the U.S. Fire Service's fire management due to the expanded WUI is discussed.
