  • Kenny tells why people collectively mourn stars like Prince. Those who capture their imagination through music and become cult figures in life and death share certain characteristics--superlative talent, contribution of groundbreaking innovations to their genre, psychological pain, death at their peak, or too young, or both and immortalization. It's only natural to mourn a premature death, but there's added poignancy when the person was creative, talented and seemingly at the height of their powers.
