  • The article discusses research conducted on methods of investigating the causes of tsunamis through satellite radar and global positioning system (GPS) station data. Research on the topic increased following the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which resulted from a powerful earthquake at the Sunda megathrust, where tectonic convergence is occurring. However, California Institute of Technology researchers say that only a fraction of the stress was released by this event.
