  • This article discusses efforts to compare the sequenced DNA of chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) with those of humans (Homo sapiens). The author describes her efforts to distinguish between random genetic mutations separating the two species and traits that were positively selected. The identification of a section of the genome referred to as highly active region one (HAR1) is described and the analysis of how that section of DNA codes RNA is explained.
