  • The article discusses colony collapse disorder, which has killed large numbers of honeybees in the U.S. as of 2009. The disappearance of honeybees as a result of the disorder is described, noting the potential for a significant impact upon around 100 crops grown in the U.S. that require pollination. Possible solutions are also discussed, including proper hive hygiene and the development of antiviral drugs.
