  • The article discusses the mathematical aspects of racial profiling in air passenger screening. The application of statistical analysis by mathematician William Press of the University of Texas to the question of the performance of racially-based screening is described, noting that a technique known as "square-root-based sampling" would be more effective than merely screening individuals based on their ethnicity.
