Fractura de odontoides tipo II: Reporte de caso

    Antecedentes: Las fracturas de odontoides tipo II son frecuentes y su manejo aún se discute por los diferentes grupos de Columna a nivel Nacional e Internacional. Objetivos: Presentar un caso y realizar una revisión de la literatura. Presentación: Se trata de una mujer joven quien sufre un trauma cráneo-cervical posterior a un accidente de tránsito, persistiendo con dolor cervical días después del tratamiento conservador y ambulatorio. Se reevalúa y se observa una fractura de este tipo, sometiéndola a una fijación anterior de la apófisis odontoides. Discusión: La evidencia clínica actual no permite hacer recomendaciones sobre el manejo conservador o quirúrgi- co en este tipo de fracturas. Ninguno de los dos está exento de morbilidad. Conclusión: Se decidió tratar a la paciente mediante un procedimiento quirúrgico mínimo, indicado después de lafalla del manejo conservador.

    Background: Type II odontoid fractures are common and their treatment is still debated by different spine column groups at a national and international level. Objective: Submit a case and a review the literature. Presentation: This is about a young woman who suffers craniocervical trauma after a car accident, persisting neck pain days after conservative treatment. The woman is re-evaluate and it is found that there is a type II fracture, subjecting her to anterior fixation of the odontoid process. Discussion: Current clinical evidence does not allow making recommendations about the conservative or surgical management in this type of fracture. Neither treatment is free morbidity. Conclusion: It was decided to treat the patient by a minimal surgical procedure, indicated after the failure of the conservative treatment.
