    En este trabajo se investiga el uso del término ‘símbolo’ en dos obras temporalmente distantes de Schelling: Filosofía del Arte (1802/1803) y Filosofía de la Mitología (1842). Schelling define ‘símbolo’ en sus lecciones sobre Filosofía del Arte como una vía por medio de la cual lo absoluto se representa a sí mismo. El símbolo es una forma de representación que unifica lo general con lo particular, el contenido con la forma. Por otro lado, en su Filosofía de la Mitología, Schelling contrapone una interpretación ‘tautegórica’ de los mitos a una concepción alegórica de los mismos. A través del análisis de las dos obras, este artículo sostiene que, aunque Schelling abandona el término ‘símbolo’ en su Filosofía de la Mitología, sin embargo, todavía tiene presente su noción.

    This paper investigates the use of the term ‘symbol’ in two temporally distant works by Schelling:

    Philosophy of Art (1802/3) and Philosophy of Mythology (1842). Schelling defines ‘symbol’ in his art lessons as a way in which the absolute represents itself. The symbol is a form of representation that unifies the general with the particular, the content with the form. On the other hand, in his Philosophy of Mythology Schelling contraposes the ‘tautegory’ to an allegorical interpretation of the myths. Through an analysis of these two works, this article argues that while Schelling clearly gives up the term ‘symbol’ in his Philosophy of Mythology, he still has the corresponding notion in mind.
