Resumen de Entre velhos e novos dados. Contributos para o estudo da Póvoa do Mileu (Guarda, Portugal) na Antiguidade Tardia

  Discovered accidentally in 1951, during the construction of the connecting road between the historic city and the railway station, the archaeological site of Mileu quickly became one of the most emblematic and studied Roman archaeological settlement of Beira Interior. However, the occupation of this settlement continued beyond the Lower Empire and continued until the 12.º and 13.º centuries.

  In the present article we intend to present a contribution to the understanding of this settlement during the Late Antiquity. ere for we will recompile old data from the 1951 interventions with the results of the research that we have developed on the settlement over the last 15 years.

  Although still in an embryonic phase, the study of the artefactual component allows us to recognize not only an occupational continuity, but also some socio-economic vitality, and the integration of this settlement in long-distance trade routes.

  Descoberto acidentalmente em 1951, durante a construção da estrada de ligação entre a cidade histórica e a estação de caminho-de-ferro, o sítio arqueológico do Mileu rapidamente se tornou uma das estações arqueológicas de época romana mais emblemática e estudada da Beira Interior. Todavia a ocupação deste sítio continua para além do Baixo Império prolongando-se até aos séculos XII/XIII.

  Na presente comunicação pretendemos apresentar um contributo para a compreensão deste sítio durante a Antiguidade Tardia. Para tal recompilaremos dados antigos das intervenções de 1951 com os resultados da investigação que temos desenvolvido no sítio, nos últimos 15 anos.

  Embora ainda numa fase embrionária, o estudo da componente artefactual possibilita reconhecer-se não só uma continuidade ocupacional, como ainda alguma vitalidade socio-económica, e a integração deste sítio nas rotas comerciais de longa distância.
