O evento de Medellín foi um ponto de mutação na vida das Igrejas cristãs do continente latino-americano. Alguns bispos, com sólida formação teológica e pastoral, assumiram nova maneira de viver a fé cristã, superando o colonialismo europeu e gestando um rosto afro-indígena-mestiço inédito nas terras do subcontinente. Apresentar alguns pequenos detalhes dessa mudança com os nomes, funções e modo como se fez esse parto profético é o escopo deste artigo. Apresentaremos os dados numéricos, os personagens centrais na elaboração de um documento que agora faz 50 anos. Ao final, um quadro sinótico da presença episcopal no Concílio e na II Conferência Geral nos dão pistas das raízes de uma Igreja adulta e comprometida com a causa das imensas maiores exploradas do continente.

The Medellin event was a turning point in the life of the Latin American churches. Some bishops, with solid theological and pastoral formation, took on a new way of living the Christian Faith by overcoming the European colonialism and creating an unprecedented Afro-Indian-mestizo face in the lands of the subcontinent. This article scope is to present some small details of this change with the names, functions and manner in which this prophetic birth was made. We will present the numerical data, the central characters in the preparation of a document that is now 50 years old. At the end, a synoptic frame of the episcopal presence in the Council and in the Second General Conference give us clues to the roots of a mature Church, committed to the cause of the continent.
