  • On Dec 26, 2015, for the second time, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) caught the ripples in spacetime shaken off by the death spiral of a pair of black holes. In other words, humans are officially in the era of gravitational wave astronomy. The discovery was announced at the American Astronomical Society meeting in San Diego on Jun 15, 2016, and will be published in the journal Physical Review Letters.
