    Buscamos oferecer uma reflexão acerca da perspectiva arquivística diante da organização do conhecimento fotográfico de acervos institucionais. Recorrendo a uma abordagem bibliográfica, chamamos ao diálogo alguns autores da área para tecer um argumento a respeito daquilo que consideramos ser a mais condizente e rica abordagem de organização do conhecimento fotográfico em termos arquivísticos, a identificação do lastro de elementos que vão da fotografia, na condição de índice, até a sua gênese documental. Consideramos que tal perspectiva, por mais árdua que seja a sua operacionalização, permitiria um resgate histórico mais profundo do quadro de conhecimentos que os documentos fotográficos podem revelar. Como resultado das reflexões propomos, em primeiro lugar, não a introdução de novas técnicas de processamento, mas uma mudança de postura dos arquivistas, no sentido de se adotar um posicionamento investigativo de teor historiográfico e interpretativo que deixe de tomar a imagem fotográfica veiculada no suporte como insumo exclusivo do conhecimento, e que procure recuperar a via que leva da imagem (como índice) até o seu contexto de produção documental, proporcionando assim uma organização do conhecimento fotográfico apta a refletir a complexidade das ações, propósitos e concepções que condicionaram a produção da fotografia e o momento histórico que ela registra.

    It was sought to offer a reflection on the archival perspective in front of the organization of the photographic knowledge of institutional collections. Using a bibliographical approach, some authors of the area were called to the dialogue to make an argument about what is considered to be a more consistent and rich approach to the organization of photographic knowledge in archival terms, the identification of items that go from photography, in Index condition, to its documentary genesis. Believing that such perspective, however arduous it may be, would allow for a deeper historical retrieval of the framework of knowledge that photographic documents can reveal. As a result of the reflections it is proposed, at first, not an introduction of new processing techniques, but a change of position of the archivists, in the sense of adopting a investigative position of historiographic and interpretative content that stops taking a photographic image conveyed in the support as an exclusive input of knowledge, and that seeks to retrieve the image (as an index) to its context of documentary production, thus providing an organization of photographic knowledge able to reflect a complexity of actions, purposes and conceptions that conditioned the production of photography and the historical moment it records.
