Resumen de Rio Tinto’s Quebec slag business declares force majeure

William Clarke, Cameron Perks

  • The market for high-grade TiO2 feedstock is likely to tighten because of an unplanned closure by Rio Tinto, with its slag plant in Quebec unlikely to resume operations until 2019.

The latest in a series of production disruptions at miner Rio Tinto’s titanium operations will mean reduced output for the rest of 2018, amid a global shortage of high-grade titanium feedstock.

Rio Tinto’s titanium slag business in the eastern Canadian province of Quebec has declared force majeure, due to a problem with one of its furnaces.
