  • Resumen
    • Last week, IBM unveiled its latest attempt to emulate human brain: an artificial neuron that switches between crystal and glass-like states. The chip is designed for systems that have to cope with huge volumes of data--like those processing data from the Square Kilometre Array in South Africa and Australia or those monitoring the stock exchange--at a fraction of the energy cost of conventional chips. The artificial neuron is just a micrometer across, and is made from a chalcogenide-based crystal sandwiched between electrodes
