Higher costs for energy will hold back the performance of the chemicals division at Solvay this year, it says.
Solvay has forecast a €50 million ($62 million) decrease in its profits in 2018, because it believes that higher energy prices will hurt the performance of its chemicals division, which produces soda ash.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) for Solvay’s performance chemicals division for the year ended December 31, 2017, rose by 4% year-on-year to €749 million, which was attributed to good demand and higher sales in the seaborne market.
