Similar market dynamics ruled silicon carbide prices a decade ago, when there was a dramatic shortage of the material due to the ramp-up of silicon carbide use in wire-sawing of silicon ingots for the photovoltaic industry, Gerasimov told Industrial Minerals. [...]refractory grade prices plunged to €560-580 per tonne from €1,000-1,100 per tonne previously, Gerasimov added. “The silicon carbide and fused zirconia prices stagnated amid growing Chinese exports worldwide over the past years; however, favorable market dynamics due to stronger demand alongside shortage of material created by environmental controls in China have put an end to low mineral pricing and the new price increase in early 2018 could be just the beginning,” Gerasimov concluded.
