  • The article reports that the metallic element is present in both types of rock, the proportion of its isotopes chemically identical atoms with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons shifts as the rock changes from mafic to felsic. It mentions that Shifting plates dramatically reshape the planet, not only by sculpting ocean basins and thrusting up mountain ranges but also by altering the composition of the atmosphere and oceans.
