  • The article discusses declaring the opioid crisis a national emergency by U.S. President Donald Trump, leading to only increase in law-enforcement budgets. Topics include the heroin crisis in 1960s played similar role except that the addicts then were African Americans, people are not dying at comparable rates in Europe and other regions where opioids are readily available as addiction is treated not as a crime rather a public health issue and illicit heroin adulterated with fentanyl.
