  • In this article, the author discusses data rot, tendency of computer files to become inaccessible, and the Library of Congress working on the issue. Topics discussed include TIFF files chosen by the library digitizes its books, photos and documents, views of Helena Zinkham, library's chief of prints, on introduction of chemicals for mass-producing paper by industries, and rescanning of most important documents and pictures for taking advantage of advances in resolution and bit depths.
