Gênero e memória: as representações do feminino e a Enciclopédia da Mulher (1950-1970)

    The article deals with the process of ruptures and permanencies that involved the representations of the feminine between 1950 and 1970. Considering the discussions of gender in terms of category, the discourses and structures of power of society and the influence of print media, we have discussed the existence of "women's manuals" as products and producers of memory that involve basic concepts of identity associated to practices and cultural representations. In the end, we shall analyze two versions of a periodical for women: the Women Encyclopedia of 1958 and the New Encyclopedia of Women from 1968.

    O artigo trata do processo de rupturas e permanências que envolveu as representações do feminino entre as décadas de 1950 e 1970. Considerando as discussões de gênero enquanto categoria, os discursos e as estruturas de poder da sociedade e a influência da mídia impressa, discutimos a existência dos “manuais femininos” como produtos e produtores de memória que abarcam noções de identidade associados às práticas e representações culturais. Ao final, analisamos duas versões de um periódico destinado às mulheres: a Enciclopédia da Mulher de 1958 e a Nova Enciclopédia da Mulher de 1968.
