  • Resumen
    • According to the office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), China’s share of global solar cell production soared from just 7% in 2005 to 61% in 2012. According to data from GTM Research, “India was responsible for around 0.08% of solar products imported into the US in 2016, and was likely [to be the source of] around 0.1% of imports in 2017. High-purity quartz ore is mined, crushed then highly purified to a level as high as 99.999% pure silica for use in high-end technical applications including crucibles for the solar industry, quartz-ware tools, and electronic chips and wafers for the semiconductor electronics industry. Because of the narrow range of requirements needed for specialist applications, such as solar PV and semiconductors, there are just two consistent producers of commercial quantities of ultra-HPQ, both of which are based in the US.
