[...]some high-street brands, such as UK cosmetics retailer Lush, have discontinued the use of natural mica in products, instead using synthetic mica. On February 6 this year, French consumer rights group UFC-Que Choisir filed a court action against Colgate, Lavera, Avene, Coty and GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) for not disclosing the amount of nanoparticle oxides they used in deodorant, sunscreen, lip balm, lip gloss and toothpaste respectively. According to research produced in 2017 by UK-based consultancy Risk & Policy Analysts, personal care companies spent an estimated €1.27 billion in 33 scientific and innovation facilities across Europe in 2014.
