Resolution of royalties dispute means that SQM can expand output of LCE at Chilean salt flatsThe dispute between Chilean economic development agency Corfo and Sociedad de Quimica y Minera (SQM) over the Salar of Atacama in Chile has concluded with a “satisfactory agreement,” Corfo vice president Eduardo Bitran said in a press conference last month in Santiago, Chile. The preferential price will be based on the lowest export market price, equal to the weighted average fob price from the lowest 20% of prices secured between SQM and several buyers during the preceding six months. Codelco, Salar de Maricunga Corfo and SQM also agreed to form a joint project with a state-owned company for the joint exploration of mining property in the Salar de Maricunga, another salt flat in the Atacama region of Chile.
