Resumen de Cold weather hiccups slow Chinese mineral production

Davide Ghilotti, Martim Facada, William Clarke, Michael Greenfield

  • [...]evaporation rates and brine concentration in these salars are low compared with other salt lake regions in the world due to their altitude, aggravated by the adverse weather and snowfall in the Tibetan region throughout winter. With an altitude of 4,400 meters above sea level and being situated in a remote area, transportation of soda ash and liquid brine to different facilities is also a difficult part of the process. Production of lithium concentrate is often reduced or stopped during winter due to snowfall affecting evaporation rates and the brine concentration of the brine ponds.
