Resumen de 'Alien megastructure' may be interstellar junk

Shannon Hall

  • It seems that the behavior of an oddity known as Tabby's star--which some have speculated may be caused by a massive extraterrestrial construction project--might be better explained by interstellar junk. Tabby's star dimmed randomly, and by as much as 20%, leaving astronomers dumbfounded. Now Valeri Makarov at the US Naval Observatory in Washington DC and Alexey Goldin at Ten Technologies in Chicago IL have taken a closer look at the dips in light--only to find that Tabby's star isn't involved in the smallest ones. Whenever these dips occur, there's also a slight jump in the position of the light, leading the pair to conclude that it's actually a different star dimming along the line of sight. Tabby's star is still implicated in the largest dips in light, however
