Two Atlantic deep-water Epitoniidae, PaPliliscala cerithielloides Bouchet & Warèn, 1986 and Opaliopsis atlantis (Clench & Turner, 1952), are recorded from the Mediterranean Sea. The tWo species bave been collected from some deep-sea coral bank located in the Centrai Tyrrhenian Sea and currently under investigation (SMRIGUO et al., 1996); In the case of P. cerithielloides this is the first Mediterranean record; the relative freshness of the dredged shell suggests its association to the deep-sea coral biocoenosis senilI PÉRÈS & PICARD (1964), but the possibility that it belongs to the accompanying wiirmian tanatocoenosis is not ruled auto The other Epitoniidae, O. atlantis, has been already recorded from the Mediterranean Sea by several Authors (BOUCHET & WARÈN, 1986; BOUCHET & TAVIANI, 1989; MIFSUD, 1993, 1994). Ali these findings strongly suggest that it is a Recent Mediterranean species living in the "coralligenous" bottorns of the deeper part of the continental shelf; due to the good state of the dredged shells, with this report, the putative habitat afa. atlantis is extended to the bathyal coral community and, funhermore, its geographical distribution is enlarged within the Mediterranean basino
