Factores restrictivos del turismo: la percepción de la demanda real y potencial sobre la seguridad pública en Rio de Janeiro (Brasil)

    La inseguridad es un importante factor restrictivo del turismo, pues el temor relativo a eventos imprevistos que generen consecuencias negativas para la integridad física del visitante es decisivo en la elección de un futuro destino para viajar. La preocupación y el temor relativos a la seguridad se encuentran compartidos por la sociedad, permitiendo denominarlos miedo social. ¿Las localidades que presentan una imagen relacionada con la inseguridad estarían impedidas de establecerse como importantes destinos turísticos por responder a un estereotipo inseguro? A fin de elucidar dicho interrogante se tomó la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro (Brasil) como objeto de estudio de esta investigación, pues se trata de un destino turístico cuya imagen se encuentra asociada a la inseguridad.

    El objetivo de este artículo fue investigar la percepción relativa a la inseguridad en Rio de Janeiro por medio de turistas reales y potenciales. Se realizó un estudio con turistas reales en la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro y con turistas potenciales por medio de formularios digitales, buscando información sobre la inseguridad como factor restrictivo del turismo y sobre la percepción de la seguridad en la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro. Los resultados preliminares confirman que la inseguridad es un importante factor restrictivo del turismo en Rio de Janeiro, sobre todo en relación a la violencia urbana. Pero otros elementos relativos a la inseguridad como la guerra y el terrorismo no contribuyen significativamente como factor restrictivo del turismo en la referida ciudad.

    Restrictive Factors for the Tourism. The Perception of Real and Potential Demand about the Public Security in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). The Insecurity is characterized as an important restrictive factor for the tourism, since the fear of unforeseen events that have negative consequences for the physical integrity of the visitor are decisive in the choice of a future destination to travel. Concern and fear about security are shared by society, making it possible to characterize them as social fear. Are insecure localities unable to establish themselves as important tourist destinations motivated by their insecure stereotype? In order to elucidate such an indagation, the city of Rio de Janeiro was used as the object of study of this research, since it is a tourist destination whose image is associated with insecurity. The objective of this article was to investigate the perception of insecurity in Rio de Janeiro through real and potential tourists. For this, research was carried out with tourists in the city of Rio de aneiro and with potential tourists through digital formulary, seeking information about insecurity as a restrictive factor to tourism and about the perception of security in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The preliminary results confirm that insecurity is an important restrictive factor for tourism in Rio de Janeiro, especially in relation to urban violence. However, other elements relating to insecurity such as terrorism do not contribute significantly as a restrictive factor to tourism in that city
