  • The Environmental Court of Antofagasta has ordered SQM to temporarily close part of its seven water extraction wells in the Salar de Llamara of Chile.The water extraction wells are used in the production of iodine and extract 124 liters of water per second. The iodine market has seen a slow price increase since the middle of this summer, with iodine (crystal, 99.5% min, drums) spot prices at $22-24 per kg, according to Industrial Minerals’ December 14, 2017 market assessment.
