    Lithium carbonate (Li2CO3) import and export volumes in China dropped in July as the average value of the goods remained firm, the latest China custom data shows.

    Recent supply issues of this battery mineral in Latin America has affected deliveries to China, which is reflected in the data.

    Chinese lithium carbonate import volumes plunged 34% month-on-month to 1,954 tonnes in July, down from 2,978 tonnes in June.

    Meanwhile, the export volumes have also dropped by 28% to 104 tonnes in July, down from 144 tonnes in June.

    China remains a net importer of lithium compounds, while the value of the country's exported material exceeded the value of imported material on a per unit basis, as indicated in the graph below.
