  • Resumen
    • Capacity ramp up almost finished; Market worries of excess supply; Insufficient availability, claims Eti Soda The large ramp up in natural soda ash production in Turkey this year will not pressure global prices, producer Eti Soda told IM.

Eti Soda is owned by the Ciner Group of Istanbul - one of the world's largest soda ash producers. The group operates facilities in Turkey and in Green River, Wyoming, US.

Expansion at the existing (Turkish) Eti Soda facility was completed in August, increasing nameplate capacity to 1.7m tpa, while production at the company's new Kazan soda ash plant increased by 700,000tpa at the end of August, and the latter will reach full capacity of 2.7m tpa by early 2018, according to Eti Soda.

The combined soda ash production in Turkey would reach 4.4m tpa in 2018 when both sites are fully operational.

Ciner Resources LP - a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Ciner Chemical Corp., which operates the trona ore mining and soda ash production business of Ciner Wyoming LLC - also has plans to expand capacity by an additional 50,000-100,000 tpa over the next few years, bringing its total production to over 3m tonnes.

The expansion in Turkey and the US will make the Ciner Group the largest producer globally with over 7m tpa in capacity.
