El vehículo submarino autónomo de la Armada española

    La aparición del submarino revolucionó el teatro de las operaciones navales. Sólo hay que recordar la hazaña del alemán Otto Weddigen y el U-9 contra los cruceros británicos Aboukir, Hogue y Cressy, tres modernas unidades hundidas por un frágil y pequeño submarino. Narciso Monturiol decía que de todas las artes conocidas, la de navegar debajo del agua era, sin duda, la más difícil y arriesgada empresa que podía emprender el hombre. Los progresos en la tecnología nos permiten aunar ambas ideas, el poder y discreción del submarino con los avances en robótica y sistemas autónomos.

    Mediante el análisis de la producción académica de la Web of Science en la última década, el registro de patentes en ese periodo y el estudio de los vehículos submarinos autónomos actuales, se propondrá cuál es el vehículo óptimo para la Armada. España se encuentra a punto de culminar su mayor proyecto, el submarino S-80 y es necesario pensar ya en el siguiente salto. Este artículo pretende poner algo de luz en tan compleja empresa.

    The birth of the submarine changed the theatre of naval operations. We just have to remember the feat by the German Otto Weddigen and the U-9 against the British cruisers Aboukir, Hogue and Cressy, three modern units sunk by a fragile, small submarine. Narciso Monturiol used to say that of all the known arts, navigation under water was, undoubtedly, the most difficult and risky endeavour that man could undertake. The developments in technology allow us to combine both ideas, the power and discretion of the submarine with the advances in robotics and autonomous systems. Thanks to the analysis of the academic production of the Web of Science in the last decade, the patents registered in that period and the study of the current underwater autonomous vehicles, we will put forward which the optimal vehicle for the Spanish Navy is. Spain is about to conclude her biggest project, the S-80 submarine, and it is necessary to think about the next jump. This article aims to shed light on such a complex issue
